Presentation-press conference of FRESCO-2014

The presentation-press conference devoted to FRESCO Annual Festival of Modern Art and Spiritual and Moral Films was held at the Union of Artists of Armenia on April 3 at 12:00.

The unprecedented festival in Armenia is organized by Formica Art Production and Tsiatsan NGO with the blessing of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese.

The speakers, including the festival’s president Shahen Nazarenko and the spiritual correspondent, Father, Priest Yesayi Artenyan presented the festival’s features, details and the rules and regulations for submitting films.

The organizers propose a totally new format of a film festival, which will introduce a new culture of viewing films in Armenia. The films about social and universal issues won’t be shown at movie theaters, but in public places. “First of all, the festival will serve as a festival for debates. After every film, viewers will have the chance to express their views. Secondly, everyone will have access to the films, and we’re not just saying that. The films will be shown at public places such as the area near Swan Lake, as well as parks, church halls and cultural centers,” said the festival’s president Shahen Nazarenko.

The open-air exhibitions and film camps in Yerevan and the provinces will set all the participants of the festival in the festive mood. Different experts’ discussions on the issues raised in the films will become an inseparable part of the festival. “This festival provides the opportunity to see and get to know different people, including the film’s directors and the main characters who have deserved to not only be the main characters in the film with their morals and spirituality and stories, but also show us their spiritual experiences,” said Father, Priest Yesayi Artenyan.

One of the peculiarities of the festival is the active cooperation with people from special social groups and with limited abilities. Disabled persons will not only take part in all the events, but will also be involved in organizing them. During the ten-day festival, film screening and several other events will be held in different corners of Yerevan and in different sites across the country.

The festival will include competition and non-competition films. The organizers have already received 300 films from 25 different countries around the world. “The mission statement of this festival is to talk about and share stories about moral and spiritual values. The festival serves as an opportunity to differentiate between what’s moral and what’s spiritual, which is something real and artificial in our days, and the synthesis of the two is the best way for dialogue,” added Father, Priest Yesayi Artenyan.
